Vannella miroides Bovee, 1965

Vannella miroides 1-9: locomotive; 10-12: cell, changing the direction of movement.
Scale bar: 20 mkm

Vannella miroides 1, 3-4: cell coat; 2: mitochondria. Scale bar: 500 nm

  • Locomotive form flattened, fan-shaped. Usualy differentiated uroid, but when the cell is elongate morulate uroid may appear. Length in locomotion 17-53 mkm (average 34 mkm), breadth 24-53 mkm, (average 34 mkm) L/B 0.62-1.56 (average 1.0).
  • Single rounded vesicular nucleus, about 6 mkm in diameter, with a spherical central endosome about 3 mkm in diameter. One contractile vacuole. No cytoplasmic cristals. No cysts found.
  • Cell coat consists of thin layer of amorphous glycocalix over to the cell membrane, and layer of radiating glycostyles, about 110 nm in length. Simple filaments among the glycostyles were not found in our sections, however our fixation quality was far from best. Mitochondria have dense matrix and tubular non-anastomosing cristae.
